President – Kendelyn Bone
Kendelyn is a fourth year in the organic chemistry program at CSU. She works with professor Bandar developing novel ways to access compounds of biological significance. As President of GWIS she wants to promote growth of the GWIS NoCo chapter to facilitate an even larger support network for women at CSU.
Vice President – Hillary Nguyen
Hillary is a four year PhD student in the Chemistry Department. Her research focuses on the discovery of new organic synthetic methodologies for drug derivatizations. She is excited to engage in outreach opportunities, improve diversity, and support inclusivity. Outside of lab, she likes to cook, hike, and travel.
Vice President of Information – Ökten Üngör
Ökten is a second-year postdoctoral researcher in the inorganic chemistry program at CSU. She is interested in understanding the effect of electron spin-conversion processes on 59Co nuclei for magnetic resonance imaging and quantum computing applications in the Zadrozny group. She looks forward to getting more involved in the GWIS community and encouraging scientists with various cultural backgrounds. Outside of the lab, Okten enjoys contemporary cinema, traveling, and learning different languages.
Vice President of Finance – Alex Taylor
Alex is a Biology Master’s student in Rachel Mueller’s lab. She also collaborates with Ashok Prasad from CSU’s Chemical and Biological Engineering Department. Her research involves mathematically modeling a developmental process in the axolotl (a cute pink salamander!) as a tool to understand how developmental rate is altered in organisms with extremely large genome and cell sizes! She is super stoked to connect with other women in the sciences, and to get involved in outreach opportunities that will hopefully empower and diversify the next generation of female scientists. In her free time, you can find her rock climbing, running, or relaxing with a (big) cup of coffee.
Vice President of Engagement – LeAundra Schöpflin
LeAundra is a fourth PhD student in the Graduate Degree Program in Ecology where they work with Dr. Pankaj Trivedi. Their dissertation work focuses on multiple climate change drivers of the soil microbiome (warming, drought, and forest fire). They hope to continue in academia and eventually start a non-profit that brings together scientists, policy makers, and activists to best address climate issues. As VP of Engagement, they will be contributing to the GWIS social media pages and helping prepare for outreach events. In their free time, they like to try out new recipes, see live music, and hike with their dog Wasabi.
DEI Officer – Roxanna Martinez
Hillary is a third year PhD student in the Chemistry Department. Her research focuses on the discovery of new organic synthetic methodologies for drug derivatizations. She is excited to engage in outreach opportunities, improve diversity, and support inclusivity. Outside of lab, she likes to cook, hike, and travel.
National Liaison – Katelyn Rediger
Katelyn Rediger is a second-year graduate student in the chemistry department. Her current research focuses on urban emissions and how consumer products such as shampoo, paint, and adhesives effect air quality in densely populated regions. After school, Katelyn would like to work on bridging the communication gaps between atmospheric chemistry research, policymaking and the communities affected by poor air quality. In her free-time she is involved in the Fort Collins salsa and theatre scenes and is a member of Italian and Spanish conversation groups. Katelyn’s role as national liaison for GWIS will involve being a representative for the CSU GWIS chapter at national GWIS meetings.’
Vice President of Social – Harley Meade
Harley is a PhD candidate in the Mathematics Department, working with Dr. Emily King. Her research looks at algebraic and combinatorial properties of collections of vectors and has applications to compressed sensing and quantum information theory. She enjoys teaching and plans to stay in academia, and hopes to continue to run events for historically excluded groups in mathematics. As VP of Social of GWIS, she plans on running social events to encourage community among the different sciences. In her free time, Harley crochets, bakes, and captains an inner tube water polo team.
